Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - The third annual Under Armour All-America High School Football Classic will once again feature a solid display talent at virtually every position on the field and for this year's rosters, the list of players and coaches do not disappoint. Players on the both team rosters includes commitments to every major BCS conference including schools such as Notre Dame and Ivy League member Harvard. Both teams have a representation of 26 different states with 15 of the 88 players coming from the Lone Star State (three on the white roster and twelve on the black roster).
What you need to know about the White Team...
Breakdown & Fun Facts
If you are a fan of the Big XII and SEC there are 18 commitments to the schools in these two conferences alone. Three of those commis are headed to the University of Auburn including RB Michael Dyer and Dakota Mosely of Little Rock Christian (Ark.). The lone Ivy League commitment of TE Blake Barker of Buckinham, Browne & Nichols (Mass.) to Harvard is also on the White Team roster. And 12 of the 47 white team members hail from the Sunshine state.
Offense Skill Players
Quarterbacks
11 Chase Rettig 6'3 201 Boston College San Clemente (Sierra Madre, CA)
14 Blake Bell 6'5 212 Oklahoma Bishop Carroll (Wichita, KS)
15 Jesse Scroggins 62 189 USC Lakewood (Lakewood, CA)
Of the three quarterbacks on the White roster, the most notable name is Blake Bell from Bishop Carroll in Wichita, KS, who is attending the Univesity of Oklahoma. It is pretty much a lock that Bell will be the likely starter for the White team. While Bell is more of a dual threat, Rettig and Scoggins are more of the pocket type quarterbacks. Expect Ted Marchibroda and Dave Levy to use Bell early to set the tempo on the running game.
Running Backs
5 Michael Dyer 5'9 200 Auburn Little Rock Chr. (Little Rock, AR)
6 Jordon James 5'10 188 UCLA Corona (Corona, CA)
Michael Dyer is probably one of the more prolific rushers to come out of the Class of 2010. With great vision and speed, Auburn got a geat steal out of Little Rock Chistian Academy. Dyer will mainly be a rusher that will be physical down field while James is the type of player that try to beat you with the elusive speed on a quick play
Wide Receivers
1 Chris Dunkley 5'11 170 Undecided Pahokee (Pahokee, FL)
3 Kadron Boone 6'1 197 Texas Tech Trinity Catholic (Ocala, FL)
7 Antonio Goodwin 6'1 170 Auburn BT Washington (Atlanta, GA)
9 Tai-ler Jones 6'0 182 Notre Dame Gainesville (Gainesville, GA)
10 Demarco Cobbs 6'1 200 Texas Tulsa Central (Tulsa, OK)
12 Brandon Coleman 6'6 200 Undecided Bishop McNamara (Forestville, MD)
21 Da'Rick Rogers 6'2 205 Georgia Calhoun (Calhoun, GA)
84 Kenny Shaw 6'0 170 Undecided Dr. Phillips (Orlando, FL)
Certainly a solid crop of players that are worth watching and some names for Big XII and SEC fans to get used to hearing over the next few years. Chris Dunkley, who should announce his intentons at the game itself, is a very quick open field receiver. Kadron Boone has a good mixture of speed and physicality and will be a solid fit into the pass-happy offense of Texas Tech. But the player to watch in this bunch is probably Texas commit Demarco Cobbs. Spending time as a quaterback at Tulsa Central may prove to be a big benefit as a receiver in the Longhorn offense and if there is trickery used in the game, Cobbs could be the key to the trick play.
Tight Ends
80 Xavier Grimble 6'5 241 USC Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV)
81 Dakota Mosley 6'4 250 Auburn Little Rock Chr. (Little Rock, AR)
88 Blake Barker 6'6 238 Harvard B B & Nichols (Wellesley, MA)
Basically everything you want in a college-ready tight end is in this trio of players. Xavier Grimble, who committed to USC in his junior season, is probably the top receiving tight end prospect in the country with his ability to catch the football and manage the routes. Mosley, like Grimble, is a solid receiver and should see significant playing time. If Mosley can show he can block with the best of them, he should be a big sleeper in the next couple years. And Blake Barker, who has committed to Harvard, will be a player to watch espcially in running type situations as a blocker. His size and intangibles should make hima solid target in short field situations.
Offensive Linemen
Offensive Tackles
68 James Hurst 6'5 285 North Carolina Plainfield (Plainfield, IN)
70 Ja'Wuan James 6'6 305 Tennessee North Gwinnett (Suwanee, GA)
71 Brent Benedict 6'5 280 Georgia Bolles (Jacksonville, FL)
72 Cam Feldt 6'5 290 Arkansas Pilot Point (Pilot Point, TX
75 Chaz Green 6'5 286 Undecided Tampa Catholic (Tampa, FL)
Virtually every single offensive tackle on the White roster has the chance to be among the best in the country over the next four years. All of them have solid size and a good sense of pride in carrying the load for the offensive skill players. Chaz Green is most likely the best tackle on the White squad as he has the tendency to be a very effective pass blocker. Not too far behind in terms of talent and size goes is Cameron Feldt. Feldt has the ability to run block, pass protect and has a very good motor when it comes to stablizing his position. Ja'Wuan James, a Tennessee commit is arguably one of the best zone blockers in the country.
Offensive Guards
56 Kolton Houston 6'5 265 Georgia Buford (Buford, GA)
64 James Stone 6'5 297 Undecided Maplewood (Maplewood, TN)
76 Torrian Wilson 6'4 300 Undecided Northwestern (Miami, FL)
Like that of the offensive tackle position, the guards on the list have great size and speed for their frame and ability. Of the three guards, the most exceptional one is likely Torrian Wilson of Miami Northwestern. Wilson, who made headlines with his decommitment of Stanford in December, is a solid pass protector and has the potential to mix in tackle position to his resume. James Stone could very well be a sleeper for either Auburn, Alabama, Stanford or Vanderbilt, whichever school gets lucky enough to gain his services for the next few years.
Center
52 Shane McDermott 6'3 265 Miami (FL) Palm Beach Cent. (Lake Worth, FL)
The lone center for the White squad is University of Miami commit Shane McDermott of Palm Beach Central. McDermott, who is a very athletic and physical player, will be enrolliing early at Miami after the Under Armour Game.
Defensive Linemen
Defensive Tackles
56 James Kittredge 6'4 250 Vanderbilt Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ)
77 Louis Nix III 6'3 318 Notre Dame Raines (Jacksonville, FL)
90 George Uko 6'4 299 Undecided Don Antonio Lugo (Chino, CA)
95 Todd Chandler 6'1 283 South Florida Northwestern (Miami, FL)
Two of the four players in the defensive tackle spots, Louis Nix III and Todd Chandler, decommited fom the University of Miami in December. Overall observation in terms of the White team's defensive tackle spot is an aggressive and physical nature of the four prospects. James Kittredge, from Don Bosco Prep is a very versatile and physical player to leep an eye on. Of the four, George Uko may be the most entertaining player to watch during the course of the game. He is a very strong and tall player with a good amount of energy to boot.
Defensive End
2 William Gholston 6'7 250 Michigan State Southeastern (Detroit, MI)
43 Jackson Richards 6'4 235 Texas Tech Carroll (Southlake, TX)
55 Corey Lemonier 6'4 221 Undecided Hialeah (Hialeah, FL)
91 Bronson Kaufusi 6'8 240 BYU Timpview (Provo, UT)
93 Corey Miller 6'4 231 Tennessee James Byrnes (Duncan, SC)
There is a vey good mix of talent that surrounds the defensive end group with a mix of tall, physical and sizable athletes. The best player to watch may be Jackson Richards of Southlake Carroll. Richards is a player that has a very good technique and can be a very smart player on the field with lots of energy to boot. After Richards, keep an eye on Bronson Kaufusi of Timpview. Kaufusi is a very tall defensive end with good siz and can be a solid blocker that is probably best suited for pass rush situations.
Linebackers
Inside Linebackers
44 Konrad Zagzebski 6'3 220 Wisconsin D.C. Everest (Schofield, WI)
48 Jeff Luc 6'1 241 Florida State Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie, FL)
Of all the linebackers in this year's game, Jeff Luc may be the most intriguing one to watch. He is a very physical and cosistent player that has a lot of upside to his game including a good tackling technique and can be very explosive. Zagzebski is a very tough player that wil have good speed in short yardage situations and can be a vey versatile linebacker that can stretch the field.
Outside Linebackers
7 Christian Jones 6'4 215 Undecided Lake Howell (Oviedo, FL)
11 Shaun Lewis 6'0 197 Oklahoma State FB Hightower (Missouri City, TX)
51 Michael Taylor 6'0 193 Tennessee Westlake (Atlanta, GA)
For this trio of outside linebackers, speed is the key operative word in describing all three players. If there is a player to keep an eye on from the position, Michael Taylor is probably the most explosive and more physical of the three. Shaun Lewis of Hightower is a player that should be key in one on one type situations.
Defensive Backs
Cornerbacks
1 Joshua Shaw 6'2 181 Florida Palmdale (Palmdale, CA)
3 LaMarcus Joyner 5'8 165 Florida State St. Th Aquinas (Ft Lauderdale, FL)
5 Cody Riggs 5'8 154 Florida St. Th Aquinas (Ft Lauderdale, FL)
21 Ryan Avers 5'10 175 Georgia Tech South Paulding (Douglasville, GA)
The White team corners certainly has a Southeast United States feel to it with two going to Florida and come from traditional state power St. Thomas Aquinas out of Fort Lauderdale. Of the four corners in the game, LaMarcus Joyner should be the player to watch as he posesses speed, solid footwork and is a very active player in the field of play. Joshua Shaw is probably right on par with Joyner but he is taller and can double a a wide out and a corner. If Shaw is found in one-on-one coverage, he will not be an easy player to get around downfield.
Safties
4 Deitrich Riley 6'1 196 Undecided St. Francis (La Canada, CA)
9 Alec Ogletree 6'3 214 Georgia Newnan (Newnan, GA)
17 Nick Dew 6'2 190 Virginia Tech First Colonial (Virigina Beach, VA)
In terms of what you can expect out of the safeties on the White squad, very athletic, sizable and solid playmakers. Of the three on the roster, look for Alec Ogletree to possibly make the biggest impact on the game with his active motor and alert instincts. Deitrich Riley is probably right in the same backyard as far as excitable players on the field.
Special Teams
Kicker/Punter
22 Kip Smith 6'0 200 UCLA Legacy (Broomfield, CO)
Smith is a kicker who displays solid accuracy on kickoffs, field goals, extra points and has a very good punting game added into his repitore. |
